Probate Law

When you've lost a loved one, there is a need to take care of the decedent's affairs.  This might include the transfer of money and property from the decedent to heirs, may include the transfer of real estate, or may concern other administrative or tax requirements.  Whether or not a formal Probate Estate case is opened, every decedent has an Estate.  It may be as little as clothes and a toothbrush.  It may be money in banks, proceeds of insurance, antiques or collectibles, homes, or businesses.  Ferry Legal helps survivors to navigate this process - often we are asked to just "take care of things" for you.

Probate is a process by which certain assets of a decedent are moved to the heirs or recipients of gifts in a Will.  It is a Court-supervised process that has, as its purposes, transparency and accountability.  The Probate Court exists to supervise the orderly and proper movement of assets.  Ferry Legal can assist as Estate Counsel, as Commissioner, or as Executor, as the case requires.  Our goal is to manage the Probate case from start to finish with the least emotional, time, and economic impact to the survivors.

If you've lost a loved one, call right away.  You'll have questions about things you probably have not considered - burial or cremation, funeral costs, debts of the decedent, etc.  Even if we don't engage as attorney and client right away, we'll certainly steer you onto the right path.  And if you need our help, most often our fees are paid out of the proceeds of the Estate, at the end, with the Judge's approval.  We hope to relieve you of Probate's bureaucratic requirements so that you and your family can focus on remembrance and healing.
